We are hosting two "How-to use a Super 8 camera" workshops here in Syracuse for all you wannabe's. They will be held at Craft Chemistry (745 N. Salina St) and instructed by 2-3 local filmmakers.

Join us on Saturday, January 28 at 2pm OR Saturday, February 11th at 2pm

No need to reserve your spot, just show up. And if for some crazy real reason you cant make either of these workshops, please email us to make other special arrangements.

Don't hesitate to sign up for the event because you don't have a camera! That's silly cause we have cameras to lend out!! We keep a flexible schedule and offer convenient locations for easy pick up / drop off. We do restrict use for only a few days at time, but you can schedule a camera more than once if needed and when a camera is available. Keep in mind that as we near when the films are due, the more challenging it will be to borrow a camera when you need it. We suggest borrowing the camera sooner than later. And be specific if you need a camera that has a special function such as: slow motion or time-lapse.

Don't hesitate to sign up for the event because you've never used a Super 8 camera before! You'll be surprised how simple it is! To learn how to use a camera, attend one of our "how to use a Super 8 camera" workshops: Saturday, January 28 and Saturday, February 11, both at 2pm and at Craft Chemistry. No need to sign in, just show up!

Planning is underway for the 6th annual event. Can you believe it - 6 YEARS! We have a few surprises up our sleeve for this years screening, but more on that later. In a few days we will be announcing out Call for Filmmakers and 2012 calendar. :D

Last night's 5th annual event was amazing! The new location was a welcome change that comfortably fit 150 people. We served popcorn, nachos, coffee and soda along with 25 incredible original one-take super 8 films! Thanks for everyone who came out to support this super local grassroots event. It's been wonderful having the previous 4 year screenings at Funk-n-Waffles, but honestly we've out grown the space! For this years event, we've got a new location planned - the event will be held in a vacant storefront in downtown Syracuse. It's perfect for our needs and we are looking forward to fitting 150+ people in it!

Syracuse Experimental will be conducting a Super-8 Workshop this Saturday, March 5th at 3pm at Craft Chemistry ( 745 N. Salina St, Syracuse, NY). If you have a Super-8 camera bring it, and if you don't we have some to play with.

One Take Super-8 2010 Recap

First off, I would like to thank all of the filmmakers and those who showed up to support this year's One-Take event. Over 60 people were in attendance to cheer on 18 brand spankin' new films! 13 of the films were from first time Super-8 filmmakers! Some even went above and beyond incorporating live performance and original soundtracks to accompany their work. We also had a special finale by Alexey VS & Michael Hentz.

We would also like to give a huge thanks to Funk n' Waffles for letting us monopolize their space and fueling everyone with coffee and tasty waffles.

I would also like to apologize to those who were watching the live broadcast. Something went squirrly with the audio, so I hope you at least were able to enjoy the visual. We will be digitizing the films this week and will hopefully have them posted to the Syracuse Experimental Film & Video site before too long.

2010 brings Syracuse's 4th Annual One-Take Super-8 event! This year's event will be held Saturday April 10th, 2010 at Funk-n-Waffles.

Last night's 3rd Annual One-Take Super-8 Event was a HUGE success. Funk 'n Waffles jam packed 100+ people, many standing only. There were 24 online viewers, via Live Stream on thisbluehippo.com.

Thanks to all the filmmakers for finding the time in their busy lives to make creative and enjoyable films for us all!

Give us a few weeks and we will have the films digitized and ready for the next adventure. Urban Video Project anyone??

One-Take Super-8 Event is drawing near!

Hi everyone,

We hope all is going well and you are either wrapping up or shooting your films. We just wanted to remind you all of some dates and a few notes:

1) ALL FILMS ARE DUE BY MONDAY, MARCH 16TH! The exposed Super-8 cartridges can be dropped off at Funk-n-Waffles (727 S. Crouse Avenue in Campus Plaza). If you cannot make it there please contact us: super8syracuse@gmail.com so we can make an arrangement to drop off the film. Please write your name on the film cartridge.

2) Please submit a 1-2 line synopsis with your film so that we can prepare the screening programs. Also provide the correct spelling of your name for the title slides. Download the "Movie Info Form".

3) If you want to have sound with your film (this is highly encouraged), you may provide a live soundtrack at the event, or a prerecorded track to play simultaneously with your film. You will not be able to view your film before it is screened publicly, so make your soundtrack accordingly. A roll of Super8 film runs approximately 3 minutes 30 seconds. All prerecorded soundtracks must be submitted to Funk'n Waffles by Friday, March 27th.

4) The date of the event is Saturday, April 4th, 8:00 pm. Filmmakers will get into the event for free, $3 for everyone else.

Syracuse One-Take Super 8 - Call for Sponsorship!

Organizers are looking for event partners and sponsors. We are putting out the call to any organization or company that would be interested in helping to support this year's much-anticipated event. Sponsorship is needed to assist in the procurement of equipment, marketing materials, and technical assistance. All will be acknowledged on event materials and at the event. If you have any ideas or are interested in sponsoring, let us know! More official-like information and materials (sponsorship form, etc.) can be provided.

HEY! Syracuse's 3rd Annual One-Take Super-8 call for entries fliers are going up all over Syracuse this week.

Entry date is Friday, January 28th, 5pm! For more info, you can download the entry form here or click on the link to the right.

Email Super8Syracuse@gmail.com to secure your entry and schedule your payment.

First 25 entries only, so if you are seriously interested, seriously get off your ass. We will keep you posted on how many spots are still available, so be sure to check back.

The film will be ready for pick up February 9th. We will notify everyone if it comes in sooner. Keep in mind, it is crucial that we keep the deadlines strict in order to be fair and have good flow.
