Year #8 premiers tomorrow!

The wait is almost over! Tomorrow's event is, well, tomorrow. We're looking forward to screening this year's films in a new venue and hope that everything goes smoothly. Also new this year: there will be a wine and beer cash bar (soft drinks too), as well Recess Coffee & Roastery will be selling coffee and baked goods! Naturally, they'll also be yummy free popcorn.

See you there!

Film clues

This is such a tease! We've been seeing some great images on Instagram posted by filmmakers and we just had to share. Can't wait to see what these shots are all about!

Things are in motion!

We successfully completed our goal: to fill all 30 filmmaker slots for the 2014 event. We're pretty pumped for the event -- naturally it is the BEST part of this whole crazy thing. We have handful of new participants and a great deal of repeat filmmakers who are eager to top their past films. I love how secretly competitive this event has become amongst filmmakers!

Everyone starts filming this month and will wrap up in September. Good luck everyone!

New year, new place

This year the live screening event will be hosted at a new location. Bye bye dirty vacant storefront that we've used for the last three years and heeeeelloooooo beautiful new space. We're moving the event to the St. Clare Theater on the North Side! It's going to be very refreshing to have a change of scenery this year.

The St. Clare Theater is located at 860 N. Salina St - next to the Asumption Church. There is a moderate size parking lot in front of the theater, as well as plenty of street parking along N. Salina and neighboring streets.

Let's talk CoLoR

We weren't sure it could be done, but it's happening. We actually found newly produced Super 8 color film! Sure it has a different finish than what we've used in the past, but it's still pretty awesome. This year we'll be able to offer registered filmmakers the opportunity to use color film or black & white. We're happy. Hope you are too.

If you are curious how this new color film looks, watch this test video:

2014 here we come!

Plans are in motion and we will be momentarily announcing 2014 OTS8 event details. Start thinking of what you are going to film this year -- filming will take place this August+September!! Yea!!

Pac Lab has closed!

We've been using Pac Lab in NYC to process our Super 8 films for quite a many years and sadly they recently closed. What a bummer! Anyway, Jason and I happened to pass their business on a recent trip to NYC. What a cute place, right?!

We may just be in luck

We recently discovered a few -- hopefully positive -- resources for purchasing color Super 8 film. We ordered a reel to run a test and we'll let you know how it goes. Ohhh we have a good feeling about this!!

the 2014 event will be different than year's past

For the past seven years the OTS8 event has held the 'call for filmmakers' in Dec/Jan and hosted the live screening in April. Well, this year we've decided to change things up! Wouldn't it be great to shoot your films in the summer months as opposed to always in the winter? We thought so too. Stay tuned for our 2014 schedule which will be posted soon...or soon-ish. First we are looking for color film before we announce details, and this could take a while. So cross your fingers!

Thanks y'all.
